A nine-year-old Palestinian boy lost his arm on Tuesday after being attacked by a bear in the Qalqiliya Zoo in the Palestinian Authority. Palestinian police spokesperson Luay Irzeiqat said that the child, from the Tulkarem-area village of Kafr Abbush, had passed the zoo's security fence and crossed into the bear's cage in order to feed the bear. The bear subsequently attacked him, ripping off his arm from his hand to his elbow. The child was taken to the Qalqiliya hospital before being transferred to al-Najah hospital in Nablus. Irzeiqat added that the police arrived on the scene and closed the section of the zoo that holds dangerous animals before launching an investigation into the incident. The Palestinian Ministry of Education temporarily suspended school trips to the zoo and opened up its own investigation. Meanwhile, the Palestinian Ministry of Local Governance decided to close the zoo until further notice.
