Joseph Carrao, 45, was arrested after up to 5 witnesses claimed the man grabbed Pinky the Flamingo from her enclosure, lifted her above his head and smashed her to the ground with such force her leg was severed. She was euthanized by staff.
Corrao was detained by the park's security and arrested by Tampa police on a charge of felony animal cruelty. A judge set his bond at $5000 which he posted Monday and was released from custody.
Corrao has a lengthy criminal record.He has served 3 years in prison on convictions including aggravated assault on a person 65 years or older, felony DUI,fleeing law enforcement . Corrao was released from prison 2015 after serving about a year.
Corrao was also arrested on a charge of felony animal cruelty after he shot and killed two chained dogs at point-blank range with a shotgun. According to the Columbia County Sheriff's Office, in 2013 he executed his neighbor's dogs - he blamed them for killing his daughter's rabbits - and he threatened a witness.
This is not the first time Busch Gardens has been in the spotlight for quationable treatment to animals as if anyone looks on tripadvisor there are many 1 star ratings in response of animal care at the park. away due to the cruel conditions the animals are kept in.
