Cows stranded as powerful tremors rip through South Island
Footage, shot from above, appears to show two adult cows and a calf huddled together on a chunk of land raised up in the middle of a destroyed paddock.
The 6.3 magnitude quake is believed to have triggered a landslide which ripped through the agricultural area.
The animals were spotted in Kaikoura close to the epicentre of the earthquake which hit at 1.35pm local time on Monday (12.45am GMT), in Cheviot, northeast of Christchurch.
